Culinary Medicine Deutschland e.V. was founded as CookUOS e.V. in 2015 by former employees and participants of the CookUOS project at the University of Osnabrück in order to make the idea of imparting education and skills accessible to a broad public. As a project at the University of Osnabrück, CookUOS has steadily and regularly received a variety of awards from ministries as well as the German UNESCO Commission as an exemplary project of the UN Decade 2011-2014 "Education for Sustainable Development" in the years 2011 to 2014.
2018 Uwe Neumann was awarded the Volker Pudel Prize of the Heinz Lohmann Foundation for the commitment of the association. The patron is Chef de Cuisine Thomas Bühner from Osnabrück, who has been awarded 3 Michelin stars and 19 Gault Millau toques.
The goals of Culinary Medicine Deutschland e.V. are to strengthen interdisciplinary and interprofessional education, training and continuing education in the field of nutritional medicine, innovative promotion of science communication and the transfer of nutrition education and sustainability into society. The association and is accompanied by nationally and internationally renowned scientists.
The honorary scientific director is PD Dr. med. Thomas Ellrott, head of the Institute for Nutritional Psychology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. In his interdisciplinary research, Thomas Ellrott investigates the extremely exciting question of what controls human eating behaviour and how it can be influenced. The focus is on health and sustainability. The staff of the IfE are involved in teaching and training at Göttingen University in the degree programmes Medicine, Agricultural Science, Psychology, Biology Teaching and Sports Science.
